Support on-going efforts of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) to educate the public, law-makers and regulatory officials of the importance of biotechnology for healing, fueling and feeding the world.
WHITECOAT Strategies and its partners launched a national education campaign that relied heavily on traditional public relations strategies, video and animation production as well as social media integration. By writing press releases with video, educating journalists about biotechnology and promoting videos through social media, WHITECOAT helped to raise awareness about the benefits of biotechnology as well as the need for policies that support innovation in the industry. Over 100 high-definition videos highlighting the incredible stories of patients, advocates and researchers were produced over the course of a year and seamlessly integrated into the campaign through social media promotions and within the IAmBiotech.org Web site (a blog developed for the biotech community). WHITECOAT strategically promoted these videos on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to enhance the overall message that biotechnology is saving lives and healing the planet.
The videos produced for BIO have been viewed by thousands of people across the globe through social media promotion and have been used in numerous venues to change minds. Many of the videos have been distributed to Members of Congress and are highly acclaimed by organizations and blogs in mainstream media like that of the Financial Times of London.
By educating over 100 journalists across the country about biotechnology, WHITECOAT was able to increase awareness about the industry and the technology as well as provide resources to the media for reporting more effectively on the issues surrounding biotechnology.
